Data center proliferation is rapidly transforming South Bay neighborhoods as massive tech infrastructure expands to meet skyrocketing artificial intelligence and cloud computing demands. These largely unseen facilities bring pressing local issues, including severe power grid strain, disruptive noise pollution from industrial cooling systems, and the displacement of community spaces. Environmentally, the impact is profound: these digital warehouses consume millions of gallons of water daily and require immense amounts of electricity that drive up carbon emissions. This rapid expansion directly challenges our ability to work together and face the forces that de-prioritize ecological impact. This talk will discuss actionable steps our community can take, including advocating for stricter local green energy mandates and practicing digital minimalism. By bridging ecological awareness with spiritual practice, we can collectively work toward more sustainable and compassionate neighborhoods.
