Location: Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists, Fellowship Hall,1606 Bonita Ave, Berkeley, CA

    Registration required.

Please join us for a day of silence, reflection and the nourishment of spiritual friendship. Sangha — the community of Buddhist practitioners — is indispensable on our path. It is said that the dharma is transmitted from warm hand to warm hand. The intensity of the world requires that we have places of refuge, where the sincerity and good will of others soothes our hearts. Sangha is such a refuge.

The day will include silent and guided meditation periods, walking meditation, a dharma talk and opportunities for dialogue. All are welcome.

    Offered by: Matthew Brensilver

Registration is open —For more information and to register see the Insight Retreat Center's Offsite Retreat page.

This particular daylong retreat is meant for people who already understand the basic practice of mindfulness; no instruction will be given.

The schedule consists of alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation. At the end of the day, Bruni gives a Dharma talk. Brief interviews to talk about the practice will be available with Bruni. Previous experience is recommended. Bring Lunch.

The program is offered freely, with no registration needed. If you'd like to donate to the teacher or the center, you can visit IMC's donation page here.

Mindfulness meditation, also known as insight meditation or vipassana, is a simple technique that concentrates and calms the mind. At the heart of mindfulness meditation is the practice of moment-to-moment observation which cultivates a clear, stable and non-judgmental awareness. While mindfulness practice can be highly effective in helping bring calm and clarity to the pressures of daily life, it is also a spiritual path that gradually dissolves the barriers to the full development of our wisdom and compassion.

During this introductory course, the basic instructions in mindfulness meditation will be given sequentially, starting with a focus on mindfulness of breathing, followed by mindfulness of the body, emotions, thinking, and the application of mindfulness in daily life.

The program is offered freely, with no registration needed. If you’d like to donate to the teacher or the center, you can visit IMC’s donation page here.

Refining Our Meditation Practice Half-Day with Matthew Brensilver

      In-person only at IMC
      Offered by: Matthew Brensilver
Meditation is a subtle art, and even seemingly simple instructions are easy to misunderstand or misapply. We often repeat the same habits in meditation that operate in daily life. There is no endpoint at which we have finally understood the instructions and can simply go about implementing them. In other words, we are always discovering how to practice.

During our time together, Matthew will provide a framework for understanding how practices relate to each other and the value of experimentation in practice. We will explore a range of meditative approaches and include time for honest discussion. All are welcome.

The program is offered freely with no registration. If you'd like to donate to the teacher or the center, you can visit IMC's donation page here.

      Four Saturdays, 9:30am – 4:00pm
      In-person only at IMC
Offered by Kodo Conlin and Ying Chen
Part and parcel of the Buddha’s path to liberation is the cultivation of mindfulness. Our Insight tradition is rich in ways to grow mindfulness in relationship with all aspects of our experience, no part left out. Let’s share in four Saturday daylong retreats for the purpose of developing clarity and mindfulness, guided by IMC’s progressive meditation instructions. This can be a great way to establish, refresh, or deepen your practice.
      • Jan 31 — Mindfulness of Breathing
      • Feb 28 — Mindfulness of the Body
      • Mar 21 — Mindfulness of Emotions (Led by Ying Chen)
      • May 2 — Mindfulness of Thinking

Participation in all four daylongs is recommended, though not required. Each daylong will include guided and silent meditations, alternating periods of sitting and walking, short Dharma talks, and discussion. Recordings will be available for review and practice between sessions. All are welcome, whether new to meditation or experienced. Bring lunch.

This program is offered freely, with no registration needed. If you’d like to donate to the teacher or the center, you can visit IMC’s donation page here.

Natural Intelligence Daylong with Kim Allen

      In-person at IMC only
      Offered by:  Kim Allen
In a world of AI, virtual interaction, and constant information flow, it is easy to lose touch with what is reliable and what is spiritually nourishing. Meditation can help us attune to a natural intelligence that resides within and includes both wisdom and heart qualities. This day of practice will support cultivating this Dharma intelligence. Learning to trust it supports our engagement with both the inner and outer worlds.

This daylong retreat will include alternating periods of sitting and walking, guided meditations, dharma talks, and contemplation. It will be an opportunity to strengthen mindfulness, develop wisdom, practice with the IMC community, and ask a teacher questions. Appropriate for meditators who are already familiar with basic mindfulness instructions. Bring lunch.

The program is offered freely, with no registration needed. If you'd like to donate to the teacher or the center, you can visit IMC's donation page here

      No registration is necessary.

Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation with Lydia Ridgway and Lauren Silver

      Five Wednesdays: April 15 – May 13, 2026: 7:00 – 8:30 pm
      In-person at IMC
Offered by: Lydia Ridgway and Lauren Silver
