A summer weekend in July for a “sandwich” retreat is the perfect opportunity to explore what a whole-life path means in our lives as we actually live them, especially this summer after a year of limited social contact and staying home. Each day will begin with a morning session of silent and Insight Dialogue practice and close with a late afternoon session. Between the two scheduled sessions will be self-directed, life-immersed practice, where you go about your summer weekend, BBQs, kids birthday parties, internet time as necessary, house projects, relaxing at the beach. To support your remembering and learning the Noble Eightfold Path, text messages will be sent to you during that time.  We will explore Gregory’s work developing a vision of the Noble Eightfold Path in which no moment, no experience, and no teaching is left out.

Many lay Buddhists struggle to carry the benefits of their meditation practice and sense of the Dhamma path into their twenty-first-century lives. This question opens up when we remember that the Buddha was a human being teaching to us as human beings. How might our daily experience of both life and the Buddha’s teachings shift if there were no separation between them? How specifically do these eight path factors apply to our relationships, our fun times, our difficult times? How do they apply to social justice, the climate emergency and lives that are infused with technology, and family and work engagement? What is the role of deep practice and Dhamma study? What, really, is the nature of intoxication and this path of detox? These are deep and profoundly practical questions.

Gregory brings to this inquiry his decades of developing Insight Dialogue and a relational understanding of the Dhamma. This opens up the whole of our lives in a heartful and authentic way. Each path factor has been re-envisioned to encompass how we actually live. The teachings from this retreat are guided by Gregory’s newest book A Whole-Life Path. Although this is not required reading to participate, the book will contribute to a deeper understanding of the material.

Join Gregory Kramer for this Zoom retreat that will include guided meditation, Insight Dialogue practice, Dhamma talks, text message prompts, and Q&A.  Please plan on attending all sessions and engaging in Insight Dialogue practice during the Zoom breakout.  We will ask you to sign up from your mobile phone (optional, but recommended), to receive text messages during the time between scheduled sessions (instructions will be emailed).
